This Thursday, September 4th, marks a special moment for Fresno: the debut of its first cricket pitches. For me, this isn’t just a milestone for our city—it’s deeply personal.
I grew up playing cricket throughout my childhood, from the streets and fields of my youth to captaining my high school team and later representing my college. Cricket wasn’t just a game; it was a teacher. It instilled in me discipline, consistency, hard work, teamwork, and leadership. Beyond the boundaries and wickets, it gave me life lessons and skills that have carried into every chapter of my life—even into my career today.
Sports, in any form, shape character. That’s why I admire all athletes—whether they play football, baseball, golf, or anything else. I love watching all sports, but since I didn’t grow up as a kid playing sports like football and baseball, my natural instincts always pull me back to cricket and soccer. In fact, sometimes the muscle memory and techniques from cricket interfere when I try my hand at baseball or golf—the skill sets are just that different!
That’s why this moment means so much to me. Cricket, the sport of my childhood, is now expanding its reach and finding a home here in Fresno.
A heartfelt thank you to the City of Fresno for investing in this project and giving our community the opportunity to experience and enjoy a game that has shaped so many lives across the world. I am grateful and excited to see cricket grow here in the central valley and especially in Fresno.
