The holiday season hits differently in Fresno and Clovis. The lights feel brighter, the traditions feel deeper, and the community shows up in a way that reminds you why we love living here. As a local realtor and as a dad, I’ve learned that some places become family staples. Every year, we end up at the same beloved spots because they bring that feeling of warmth, nostalgia, and togetherness.
If you’re looking to create new family traditions or revisit some classics, here are the six places my family always visits during the holidays.
1. Christmas Tree Lane
No list is complete without the Fresno icon.
For more than 90 years, Christmas Tree Lane on Old Van Ness Blvd has been the heart of the holiday season. Whether you drive it or bundle up for a walk-through night, the lights, music, and decorated homes create pure holiday magic. It’s one of those traditions that feel the same no matter how much the city grows.
2. Candy Cane Lane
Clovis brings its own holiday charm through Candy Cane Lane near Peach & Alluvial.
It’s colorful, walkable, and full of homes decorated with personality. Kids love it, parents love it, and it’s the perfect evening outing when you don’t want something too crowded or too far from home.
3. Zoo Lights at Fresno Chaffee Zoo
Zoo Lights transforms the Chaffee Zoo into a glowing wonderland with themed displays, music, and seasonal treats.
It’s especially great for younger kids. It’s safe, interactive, and full of excitement around every corner. If you want an outing that truly feels like an experience, this is the one.
4. Winter Wonderland at Fig Garden Village
Fig Garden Village becomes its own little holiday movie set in December.
The shops light up, the decorations go all-out, and there’s something special about walking around with a warm drink as the kids take in the festive storefronts. Whether you’re shopping for gifts or just enjoying the atmosphere, Fig Garden Village has one of the most charming holiday vibes in the city.
5. Ice Skating at Fresno Ice Rink (Downtown Fresno)
If you want a break from lights and displays, seasonal ice skating at Eaton Plaza is a great switch-up.
It’s fun for the entire family, even if the highlight ends up being everyone trying to stay upright. Watching the kids wobble around the rink always becomes a memorable moment.
6. River Park Holiday Nights
River Park goes all-out in December.
Between the big Christmas tree, live entertainment, festive activities, and decorated storefronts, it becomes an easy “grab dinner and walk around” holiday outing. No planning, no stress, just a good time with the family.
Why These Traditions Matter
The holidays aren’t about doing things perfectly. They’re about creating memories. And that’s the beauty of living in Fresno and Clovis: we get the small-town charm and the big-city experiences, all in one place.
